Bearing Design and Analysis
Oiltech Bearings engineers solutions for customers rotating equipment. Based on the specifications provided by client a design is prepared and evaluated by FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to predict the bearing performance and ensure safe operation of the bearing.
After establishing a suitable design, we provide support with tuning the bearing for suitable stiffness and damping coefficients to ensure stable rotor dynamic operation of the machinery.
Specifications
Clients provide information such as shaft diameter, speed, load and lubricant. This is often combined with established limits such as max allowed specific load and max oil film temperatures.
Mechanical Design
Inital consideration is given to the mechanical package of what type of bearing design is possible and what the experience and expectations are for the type of bearing design the client uses, or Oiltech will propose a solution.
FEA Performance Prediction
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software is used to predict the bearing performance and determine stiffness and damping coefficients. This can be optimised and tuned to suit rotor dynamic requirements.
Bearing Performance Prediction
The performance of a bearing is predicted by using FEA software to determine the operating parameters of bearings. The input data required includes:
-
Shaft diameter
Load
Lubricant grade
Lubricant feed temperature
Bearing Geometry
The output data from analysis provides data such as:
-
Maximum oil film temperature
Minimum oil film thickness
Power loss
Required oil flow
Stiffness and damping coefficients
Standard Product Ranges
Oiltech Bearings can design bearings with established client design practises and norms. We can also use standard product ranges we offer and engineer them with specific geometry to suit your application. Our standard product ranges include modular thrust bearings, tilt pad journal bearings, combined bearings and equalising thrust bearings.
